We had great fun working as scientists in Ms Madden's class as part of Science Week. The First Experiment we tried out was making a Skittles Rainbow For this we needed a plate, skittles and some hot water. We placed the skittles in a circle on a plate and Ms Madden added some hot water, we couldnt believe it when the colours came out of the skittles to make a rainbow. Dancing Raisins After putting some raisins into some water we noticed that they sank straight to the bottom. We wondered what would happen if some raisins were put into fizzy water instead....when we put them in they started to dance. The boys put on their scientist hats to figure out what made them do this and they reasoned it was the gas in the water that caused the raisins to move. The Magic Glove We put some bread soda into a glove and Ms Madden passed around some liquid to see if we could guess what it was....we guessed right, it was vinegar. Using our thinking skills we were asked to guess what could happen to the glove if we put it over the glass and the bread soda fell into the glass. One boy guessed correctly and said that the glove would fill up like a balloon. Raincloud Firstly, we put water into a bowl and Ms Madden used shaving foam to create the clouds. We wondered what would happen if the clouds became too full that they could not hold any more water Using blue food colouring we found out. When the clouds became too full the extra water fell from the cloud like rain. Putting an egg into vinegar
For this experiment we needed two things an egg and vinegar. We tried to figure out what would 'happen to the hard, cold egg if it was left in vinegar over the weekend. On Monday we couldn't believe it when we discovered that the shell had turned squishy and when Ms Madden put the egg up to the window we could see right through it.SCIENCE IS AMAZING!!!
