We were kept very active playing the different games for our Active Day. Our favourite was the penalty shoot out. Ms Madden's class had great fun getting Fit with Fred for 10@10 as part of our Active Flag initiative. Last week in Junior Infants we were working on the letter l. As our song for this letter is called "We lick our lollipops", we decided to make some lollipops. After cleaning the tables, we set about melting our chocolate. We got our lollipops ready by sticking some marchmallows onto lollipop sticks. Then, we had great fun dipping them in the melted chocolate. Mmmm delicious! We have started to play Barrier Games in our class to help improve out oral language skills. This week two boys sat at either side of the barrier with four different colour bowls and four objects. One of the boys had to instruct the other boy as to what to put in each bowl. If the instructions are followed correctly, the bowls on both sides of the barrier should be the same.
Our theme for February is My Home. We have set up a home corner for our Aistear play time. Each table gets a turn to play at the kitchen during the week. We have been reading the story "The three little pigs". We made their 3 houses in art. One group made a house of straw, another group made a house of sticks and the last group made the house of bricks. Our phonics letter last week was L so we made lions which are on display outside our classroom. We love painting! Our theme for January was Winter weather. We checked the weather every morning and made a weather chart on our wall over two weeks. In art we made snowmen and little red robins which we displayed outside our classroom. As part of our science lesson about hot and cold temperatures we made Jelly. We used hot water to melt the jelly. We put it in a big bowl and let it cool down over night in our school fridge. On Friday we all ate the jelly after our lunch. It was delicious! After learning about different people who work in our community we decided to open a Post Office in our class. To open a post office the first thing we needed was some letters. So, the boys got busy writing letters and drawing pictures for their friends. Our next step was to put our letters into an envelope. Then off we went to the post office to get our stamps. When we had our stamp on our letters we posted them in the postbox. Our postman collected the letters from the postbox and had a busy time delivering all the letters. We had great fun looking at the letters our friends had sent us. One Thursday every month the boys in Junior Infants will go to the library for some story-telling. We really enjoyed our first visit and listened to some very funny stories.
For the month of January our Active Day was based on the strand of Gymnastics. Junior Infants had great fun trying out the different aspects of gymnastics. |
