The boys were great detectives and found all the pictures hidden around the school. Miss Bourke’s class planted cress seeds. The cress grew in just one week and we had tasty cress sandwiches !! The seeds needed water and sunlight to grow , we loved watching the seeds grow into cress plants !! As it is Easter time, we decided to learn about the life cycle of a chicken. It was great timing as Mrs Harte brought some eggs to school and we were lucky to see the life cycle happen right in front of our very eyes. After watching them as they were put into the incubator and using a light to see them moving within the shell, the day came when they started to hatch and what excitement there was. EAL boys from both junior infant classes visited the Post Office. The children are learning all about the Post Office in Aistear. We took pictures in the Post Office and pictures of some buildings we passed along the way. When we were learning about hot and cold things we started chatting about what happens to chocolate when it gets warm, it starts to melt. As we were also learning the letter l we decided to combine both and make lollipops using marshmallows and melted chocolate. They were delicious. When we were working on the letter v we came across the word 'volcano' and decided to learn all about them. After learning about the different parts of a volcano and how they explode we decided to make our own. First, each group made the shape of the volcano using clay. When the volcanoes hardened, the boys painted them brown. Then it was time to make the volcanoes explode. We put some bread soda into the crater of the volcano and poured in a mixture of vinegar and red food colouring. We sat back and watched what happened next.... |
