Congratulations to Seán Micheal Morrissey who won first prize in the North Tipperary County Council Christmas tree decoration competition. Seán made his decoration using an old paint brush.
Well done to all the boys who made Christmas decorations from recycled materials. The following boys won prizes for their decorations within our school. 1st prize: Seán Michael Morrissey 2nd prize: Skirma Stulga Other winners: Cian Connolly, Lincoln Lawlor McGrath ,Robertas Bartkus, Kevin O'Reilly. Max Gavilouskis, Eoghan Collins. The challenge is for children to make Christmas Tree Decorations out of recycled materials such as eggshells, cardboard, newspapers, plastic and glass bottles, tin cans, milk and juice cartons, etc. All of the decorations need to be made from recycled materials and the competition aims to get children and their parents thinking about how to reuse and recycle materials that might otherwise be thrown away. The competition is run annually by North Tipperary County Council to encourage the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle of materials in schools and homes. We are currently working towards our second green flag for energy. We are all trying to conserve energy by turning off our lights and computers when not in use and by shutting the doors to keep the heat in.The energy vampires remind us to save energy. In October we had a low energy day and we did not turn on the lights or use computers for the day.Our electricity consumption went from 20 units to 3. We harvested our potatoes from our school garden in September. We made boxty from the potatoes. It was delicious. Guzzler came to St.Mary's as part of a workshop to help us get our next green flag for energy. We helped to show Guzzler how we can save energy. Guzzler showed us that we can save energy by putting on a jumper instead of turning up the heat and also by walking instead of using the car. We saw lots of brilliant experiments that showed us that energy is all around us. Guzzler gave every boy a sticker at the end of the workshop. |
