Green Schools have an idea to celebrate Walk to School Week 2020 with a twist! We are asking students, family and staff to take a walk, scoot or cycle into the great outdoors and discover what their 2-5km has to offer. This is a unique time in our lives to fully explore and quietly observe our natural surroundings. It is very important that children know the rules of the road.
Check out the Safe Cross Code Dance at www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIluoGcCKNg County Mayo based Green-Schools Travel Officer Lukasz Krzywon, along with Mateusz and Oliver from Glencorrib National School, demonstrate scooter skills and safety tips. Scooting is a healthy, sustainable and enjoyable way for children to arrive to school in the morning.
CHECK OUT THEIR VIDEO USING THE LINK BELOW: youtu.be/SZYBlXZ4MbA The boys of St.Mary's are spending more time than ever outdoors, connecting with nature. This week as part of National Biodiversity Week Junior Infants explored the topic of mini-beasts. Biodiversity just means all of the different types of living things in a certain place. This includes all of the different species of flowers, trees, grass, insects, fish, birds and mammals in one spot. On Monday the boys completed a mini beast Maths hunt. Next they had a mini beast hunt outside. And the last task of the week was to create some Mini -beast Art. Well done boys. If you would like to look for other ideas around the theme of Biodiversity there are great ideas on the Green school website https://greenschoolsireland.org/green-schools-stay-home-biodiversity-week-6/ Green-Schools Cycling Development & Travel Officer, Allison Phillips, goes through some quick checks on her bike before setting off on a cycle.
