We kicked off our Active Schools Programme for this school year on Friday 29th September with National Fitness Day. We had another successful Tug of War on the astro turf area in our school yard. Classes took on each other and the teachers & staff even got involved. All classes took part from Sonas ASD preschool up to 1st class. We had great fun and we are looking forward to more active days in the coming year. Thanks to Ms. Shanahan & Mr. O Meara for running the Tug of War.
For our March active day we introduced a little bit of Gaeilge to take part in Seachtain na Gaeilge. We danced the Siege of Ennis in the hall with our classes.
The Siege of Ennis is an Irish dance where four dancers face four. We were excellent dancers & we had great fun.
We all wore green to school to mark St. Patrick's Day and we all contributed 2 euro each to add to our Literacy Lift Off book fund.
This month we had games for our Active Day. The hall was set up with 5 stations for us to try different games and use different skills.
Thank you to all teachers for bringing their classes to the hall to take part & thank you to Ms. Shanahan & Katie for their help in the hall on the day.
This month we had Gymnastics for our Active Day. We had 5 stations to try out different aspects of gymnastics. The stations were;
Travelling on feet
Travelling on hands and feet
Our hall was set for gymnastics and we were out into groups of 5 or 6. We rotated stations every 5 mins and had a chance to try out everything.
In January Senior Infants & First Class started Yoga. This will run for 6 weeks. Here are Ms. Bradshaw, Mrs. Harte's class and Mr. Prout's class practising some poses. Namaste!
In November we had active breaks in the yard and in our classrooms. Here are some pictures of Sonas having an active break in their playground.
Mr Prout's Senior Infants also had good fun keeping active in their classroom. They love GoNoodle & do this every day.
Sonas got a new playground and they have lots of fun here at lunchtime.
In October we did Dance for Active Friday. We had a disco in the hall and played games like Musical Statues & Musical Chairs. Sonas Preschool had great fun & they were really good at Musical Chairs. Mrs Harte's Senior Infants showed us some excellent moves on the dancefloor.
Mr Prout's Senior Infants were showing off their dancing moves around the hall.
