For our March Active Day we celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge with “Rince sa Halla”. Ms MacLoone took charge to teach us all a lovely dance to traditional Irish music. Ms MacLoone is a former professional dancer & has travelled the world with “ Lord of the Dance”. We were very lucky to have her teach us on the day. Míle buíochas!
Spring has sprung in St. Mary’s Junior Boys and Active Day for February was outside in the sunshine. We had 5 activities this month focusing on our running, jumping and throwing skills.
Today we had our Active Day for January. This month we focused on Gymnastics. We had 4 stations;
- travelling on hands & feet
- a sequence
Yoga is back in St. Mary’s this month. Seniors & 1st Class will be doing yoga for the next 6 weeks
Today we had our Active Day for the month of November. We had 4 stations which included;
1. Running with a baton
3. A playground game &
4. Throwing at targets

We kicked off our Active Schools Programme for this school year on Friday 29th September with National Fitness Day. We had another successful Tug of War on the astro turf area in our school yard. Classes took on each other and the teachers & staff even got involved. All classes took part from Sonas ASD preschool up to 1st class. We had great fun and we are looking forward to more active days in the coming year. Thanks to Ms. Shanahan & Mr. O Meara for running the Tug of War.
For our March active day we introduced a little bit of Gaeilge to take part in Seachtain na Gaeilge. We danced the Siege of Ennis in the hall with our classes.
The Siege of Ennis is an Irish dance where four dancers face four. We were excellent dancers & we had great fun.
We all wore green to school to mark St. Patrick's Day and we all contributed 2 euro each to add to our Literacy Lift Off book fund.
This month we had games for our Active Day. The hall was set up with 5 stations for us to try different games and use different skills.

Our hall was set for gymnastics and we were out into groups of 5 or 6. We rotated stations every 5 mins and had a chance to try out everything.
