This week is science week and we explored lots of activities with that in mind 1. Rainbow We made a rainbow using skittle and water. The boys decided that using hot water would be better than cold water to dissolve the colours on the skittles. 2. Rain Cloud We made a rain cloud in a glass. We discussed that clouds are made of water and that it rains when the clouds are too full to hold any more water. We added drops of blue food colouring which trickled through the rain cloud. 3. Dancing Raisins To begin we put raisins in a glass of tap water, they sunk to the bottom. Next we discussed what are the differences between tap water & fuzzy water. We decided that fizzy water has bubbles. Finally put raisins into fizzy water. We watched the raisins sink to the bottom and then move to the top of the glass & back to the bottom of the glass. They were dancing. 4.Lava Lamp We discussed what happens when you mix oil and water. When we added the oil to water the oil bubbled and then settled at the top. We added an “Alka Seltzer” tablet which created bubbles in the oil which looks like a lava lamp. 5. Volcano
This was our favourite experiment today, investigating the effect of vinegar on bread soda... a.k.a “Making a Volcano ". Comments are closed.
